History

The prison remains in Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It was built by the British to keep the fighters of the Indian freedom struggle imprisoned, which was located thousands of kilometers away from the main Indian land, and thousands of kilometers inaccessible from the sea. It was notorious under the name of black water.

The main objective of colonization in Andaman was to provide safe space to stranded ships in sea storms. It is thought that a permanent settlement is the only solution to the safety of the seaports. The first attempt to establish a settlement in these islands was made in 179 when Captain Archibald Blair settled a settlement in Chatham Island. This settlement was later shifted to Port Cornwallis in North Andaman as the place was considered navigational. This attempt to settle the colony was not successful and it was abolished in 1897.

After 40 years, there was a question of establishing a permanent settlement in these islands for the protection of the ships, but the establishment of a captive colony was actually established in 1856 to sow the patriots of the first freedom struggle. The captive colony started with the arrival of the first batch of 200 freedom fighters of the Ring of Liberty in Andaman and Nicobar and Nicobar Islands on 10 March 1858. All long-term and life-long imprisoned patriots, who for some reason survived the death penalty in Burma and India, were sent to the captive colony of Andaman.

Types of Islands

Geographically, the archipelago can be located in two places -

Away from any large land area, in open water in the ocean. Its example is the Hawaiian Province of the United States, an archipelago located in the Pacific Ocean. There is thousands of miles of open water around Hawaii.

Near a terrain, protected from deep sea. Its example is the archipelago of 400 islands located around the mainland of Scotland in Europe.

Most islands have two types of islands -

Volcanic islands - These islands form islands by bursting molten stones (ie lava) over the ages of one or several volcanoes located at the bottom of the sea. Because such volcanoes are mostly formed by plate tectonics, these type of archipelago are also mostly in the form of series. Its example is the Andaman Islands of India where a volcano still actively erupts from time to time on the Baron drip.

Coral Islands - These islands are formed by thousands of marine creatures called tiny corals - rising for millions of years. Just as the snails make their shells, in the same way these corals keep making a shell of very strict body around them. With billions of billions of corals, this island rises from the bottom of the sea and forms an island slightly above its surface. Such islands are found in flocks rather than in a straight chain. Its example is the islands of India.
