The history of Chanderi Fort is quite unclear as there is no authentic confirmation or concrete evidence regarding its construction. But according to many historians and researchers, Chanderi Fort was built by Bundela Rajputs in the 11th century. But even after this, different rulers have done many construction works in the fort. The Budela rulers also built many palaces inside the fort. It is believed that Medini Rai Khangar was defeated in the Chanderi war fought on May 6, 1529, after which all the women, including the Rajput queens, did not accept Babur's slavery and committed suicide by accepting Jauhar. Jauhar memorial exists outside the fort even today in honor of those queens.
Architecture of Chanderi Fort –
Situated on a hill 71 meters above the city, Chanderi fort is a magnificent specimen of architecture, its sculptures have the impression of different kings. Chanderi Fort was built keeping in mind the complete protection from external invaders which is protected by fortification walls built all around. The fort has three gates through which the Chanderi fort can be reached. The topmost gate of the fort is known as Hawa Paur Dwar. While the main gate of the fort is known as Khooni Darwaza. Hawa Mahal and Nau Khanda Mahal are the branches of Chanderi Fort.
Another entrance to the Chanderi Fort is located towards the south-western part of the Chanderi Fort. This is a strange gate called Khatti Ghat. This gate is 59 meters long, 12 meters wide and 24.6 meters high.
Khooni Darwaza Chanderi –

After this incident, this gate of the fort came to be known as Khooni Darwaza.
